Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How old should my pup be to enroll in a gun dog school?

A: The ideal age is 6-18 months, but most dogs are quite trainable up to 2 or 3 years of age!

Q: How old is too old for my dog to be enrolled?

A: This is the million dollar question, genetics, breeding and desire out weigh age! If your 5 year old has been encouraged and allowed in his life to follow his natural instinct such as fetching, chasing birds, pointing, swimming through play time and walks in the park etc...but has never hunted, he/she would be a good canditate for a late start.

If your 4 year old retriever was chastised through out its life and never allowed to have anything in his mouth beacause you didn't want him or her to chew on your stuff, regardless of the pups accompolished parents this dog is better off as a pet!

I am always willing to evaluate any dog!

Q: What breeds do you accept?

A: All hunting breeds are accepted, Pointers, Labs, Springers etc.. Whatever hunting breed you have!

Q: What type programs do you offer?

A: For upland dogs we offer 2 levels the first level is to get the pup started, the second level is for finishing. More detail on these levels on program page.

Q: How long does it take?

A: Just as all people are different with different aptitudes so are dogs. So the time frame will vary from dog to dog. The first level will average 90 days. Some dogs will graduate their level early, some right at the 90 days, and others a little longer. Level II depends on the commands you want your dog to learn, and again, the aptitidue of the dog.

Q: How does that work, does the dog stay with you?

A: Yes, the pup will stay on site through out the program.

Q: 90 days is a long time, can I visit my pup?

A: Yes of course, you would have unlimited visitation. Being pet owners ourselves we know how attached you are to your pup, so as long as it doesn't interrupt the training you could take him/her home for a few days.

Q: Where are you located?

A: From Denver we are located approximately 45 miles south east of Castle Rock. From Colorado Springs we are located approximately 20 miles north of Falcon off Peyton Highway.
